2010
Together We Can Help Our Local Non-Profits Beginning March 1, 2010 through April 30, 2010, Community & Southern Bank & Community & Southern Bank are extending extra help to our community non-profit organizations. For every debit card transaction ran as a credit, we will make a company donation of $.05 each. To help, all customers need to do is run their debit card transactions as credits when making purchases. It’s that simple! The total number of transactions will be tallied at the end of April and a company donation will be made to non-profits throughout our communities. Please join us in this wonderful and easy way to strengthen our local non-profits!
2009
Local Food Banks In early 2009, we recognized the need to help our local food banks as they struggled to meet the demand caused by the economic downturn. The response from our local markets was overwhelming. Together with our customers, we were able to collect over 15,000 non-perishable items for our local food banks.
Deployed Soldiers Inspired by the success of our food drives, we looked for other ways to serve our communities. Our area has many local soldiers serving overseas. As July 4th approached, our employees wanted to send our soldiers something special from home. Two of our branches teamed up with our customers and collected used cell phones. The phones were sent to a special recycling program that uses the proceeds to buy international calling cards for soldiers. To make life a little easier for soldiers serving, our other locations collected snacks, personal care items, games, magazines and more - then assembled the items into hundreds of care packages and mailed them overseas.
School Children in Need With families throughout our communities affected by the deep and lingering recession, many of our local school children faced starting the new school year without the needed supplies. Our collection barrels filled quickly with backpacks, pencils, crayons, scissors and much more. Our Dahlonega office successfully partnered with Walmart to provide a central location for customers to purchase and donate supplies as they shopped for their own children. Company-wide, our offices helped over 300 families send their children to school with confidence.
Animal Shelters & Homeless Pets After helping children, soldiers and our food banks, we couldn’t forget our furry friends. All of our local animal shelters face challenges due to limited resources and donations. With the help of our customers, our community shelters and pet rescue groups received donations of dog and cat food, beds, kitty litter, toys, collars, leashes and more. The timing was perfect in Gilmer County as the new shelter opened and needed donations. Tails wagged and cats meowed as visitors stopped by our offices for pet adoption days. Some pets found loving homes with customers and employees, and many more benefited from the donations given to their temporary homes.
Christmas 2009 Over the holiday season, our employees teamed up with our customers and collected toys and food for local families in need. We extend a special thank you to our kind and generous customers! |
